Locations Research
We have looked at many places to film our video but we had to pick a place that was perfect for our video setting. That is why we have chosen to do it in the places of a mirrored wall that is very dark and gloomy, like in a youth club or some form of dance studio. We had decided that the best and most convenient place for us to film was the dance studio within our school and also a music room. With the the revelation of the group unable to use the green screen we thought that the next place to be best for the band altogether is to perform on the main hall stage.
Equipment
In this piece of video shooting we have used many apparatus to help make the best video that we could these have been shown to be very helpful when we have needed to get the right shot and setting that we could get for the video. We have such equipement such as a camera, tripod and a green screen.
Camera- This was obviously the piece of equipment that was used to make the video possible, capturing all the shots that was in our footage, this helped us when we had to play around with how bright the shots were, for the drinking scenes especially.
Tripod- This is what we used to holster our camera into place and this is used in every shot that we have done because it gave a constant steady shot in the video but also making sure that we always got the right angle and the right height of the camera. We had done many shots with this tripod but there was a particular scene that we did not need it for and that was when the character had a point of view shot of drinking out of the glass.
Green Screen- There was a plan that the group was going to use the green screen in the way that the band was going to be placed in the mirror as an illusion towards the main character as a memory or alter self taunting him the mirrors. We had come to the realisation that the video would be improved if we had the band on a stage and cut to the scenes like a flashback.

Costume and Props
We have used basic costumes throughout the entire video that allow us to link ourselves to the audience as being just like them. this costumes vary from several people that are included in this, being formal and informal wear.
Joel- Protagonist/ Rhythm Guitar
This is the main character of the video everything is centred on this individual alone. We worked hard to make the character looked as untidy as we possibly could so that it would link well into the mood of the video, this including making a shirt into a very bad state with bits of dirt and stains. This was to add an affect that this character was losing their mind and losing grasp on the world from all his contacts, especially in the drunken scenes. He wears a black jumper, white shirt, black trousers and black shoes as it is more formal to be a sixth form uniform. There were band parts that Joel had top do and for this he brought a more informal attire and this was shown to be suitable for a performance on stage, as he was rhythm guitarist and singer he was stood at the front of the stage in a grey jumper, navy blue jeans and black shoes. The props that Joel would have to use within this is a small bottle that would pass off for whiskey and a small glass for him to pretend to drink from, this was brought in from home but the prop of table and chair was already in the room at school that we had done filming in. Joel finally had to use a red guitar that he had to use when they were doing the band performance part.
Saul- Best Friend/ Lead Guitar
Saul is a character that has two roles in this video. Lead Guitarist and best friend. These are both in a form of flashback scenes, for the best friend scenes , although in one he playing in the band it is meant to be the base of the argument. In this he wears a black and white school uniform with a black leather jacket over it when in the band part he plays the role of lead guitar only wearing t shirt, trousers and shoes. In this he equips a red guitar much like Joel's which they both got from the music room of the school.
Patrick- Bass Player
Patrick has two costumes too but has less of a role, he wears a uniform much like Joel and Saul when he plays the bass player in a room in the flash back. Patrick is the formal member of the band and wears clothes that are slightly similar to the uniform in the band scenes, consisting of a blazer, shirt, pants and shoes. He also has in hands handles a massive black bass guitar.
Andrew- Drummer
Andre plays the drummer in the flash back scenes and the other band performance scenes even though much like Patrick he does not really play a major role in the flashbacks. In the flashback scenes Andrew wears uniform to match the rest of the band in the flashbacks, shirt, tie, jumper, pants and shoes. In the band part he is in a informal attire of t-shirt, trouser jeans and even shoes, this is seen when Andrew plays the drums using them as props and also some drumsticks.
Time Plan
Every film or music video needs a good time plan that allows it to be well organised and for it to be something that is of good quality. Thsi mentions all of the times that we had planned out to film our video, all consisting in our school, this also including what we did and when but also the plans of other coursework based projects like the magazine and digipak.
Dance Studio: 12th October - 14th November
Music Room: 13th November- 16th November
The Main Hall: 21st November
Toilets: 16th October and 12 December
The Sixth Form Zone: 5th December
Friday 12th October - On this day we had decided to start our filming, this was the first of many to come. It started with shooting Joel, behind a table on his chair drinking the fake whiskey had made with watered down Pepsi. The shots consisted of long shots from the side, and medium close up shots from straight having the character look into the camera eye, we also planned whatv other shots we could do the next time we filmed.
Thursday 8th November - On this day, the group decided that we would film more shots of Joel getting drunk in front of the table and chair. This is because we didn't use enough shots the first time, and we needed to re-edit some of the shots.
Tuesday 13th November - This is the day we went into the music room, to record the practise part of the band for the music video. However time got short, and we had to end it and pack up the equipment we used that day. We went back to the classroom and started to do the magazine advert on the computers.
Tuesday 16th November - We also got the first shot of the man going towards the toilet, and him washing the face and looking into the mirror. in this we will try our best to position the camera as best as we can so that we can not see the camera in the shot.
Wednesday 21st November - Throughout the two hours we had, we used the hall wisely to film the band bits for the video. This would be the performance parts, and we used the lighting in the hall aswell to do this. With these forms of footage we were able to link the singer's lips in time with sound of the backing track.
Wednesday 5th December - We needed to get the main character to have an argument with his friends, for the video. This is one of the parts were his life started to drop, and go south. After we filmed that bit, we uploaded the footage we received onto the computers and started to do the editing process. The digipak process was starting to come in around this time, when we made the first two panels of the digipak and started to editing the third panel.
Wednesday 12th DecemberWe needed to get the lead singer to sing for the lip sync for the video, for the mirror shot. This is were we re-edited the shot and made sure that it was suitable for the video. This is also the day we finished our magazine advert and on the computer.
Song Choice
Biffy Clyro- Scary Mary
I have chosen this song because I believe that it would be the best choice as it is a song that has multiple messages to set across to everyone, that can either be one of loss and sudden realisation to current affairs.
